Day 2 dawned with a stiff cold westerly breeze and encroaching overcast from the west.

At briefing, the prospect of a good soaring day looked remote and two AAT tasks were set. Standard / 15m / Open class task was set Horsham – Hopetoun (30km radius) - Wycheproof (40km radius) – Horsham (197.3 km min and 431.4 km max).

Performance Class task was set a somewhat more modest task: Horsham – Rosebury (30 km radius) – Donald (30 km radius) - Horsham (159.3km min and 361.3km max.)

Conditions improved during the early afternoon, and launching commenced at 1320 with reported climbs to 5000’ and wind strengths 12 -17 kts. 36 aircraft were launched in 56 minutes into a 4/8 cumulus sky with improved conditions to the north.

Pilots reported climbs from 5 – 9 knots and generally reliable lift to 7000’ with good streets.

The best speeds were reported by pilots who worked the strongest lift between 4000 and 6000’.
